Dr. LaShonda’s Books and resources
Bag Lady can now be purchased at
In Bag Lady, LaShonda Harolyn Henderson takes readers on a powerful journey through the emotional aftermath of intimate partner dating violence. More than a memoir, this book is a mirror—reflecting the hidden grief, guilt, shame, and self-sabotage many women silently carry in the name of love, survival, and loyalty.
From teen trauma to adult awakenings, LaShonda unpacks the “bags” we’re taught to hold onto—those heavy, unspoken burdens that follow us into relationships, leadership, motherhood, and identity. Through storytelling, self-reflection, and spiritual insight, Bag Lady gives voice to the pain and the possibility of healing.
If you’ve ever lost yourself while loving someone else, this book will remind you:
You were never meant to carry it all.
Sex For Every Body: Intimacy, Identity, and Body Dysmorphia.
Sex for Every Body is my doctoral project in Clinical Sexology, developed to examine the intersection of body image distress, identity, embodiment, and intimacy among Black women.
Grounded in intersectionality, objectification theory, and attachment theory, this practice-based project explores how sociocultural experiences, self-perception, vulnerability, and relational dynamics can shape the way Black women experience their bodies and intimate relationships.
The project culminated in the development of Sex for Every Body, a culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapeutic workbook that translates psychological and sexological research into practical tools for reflection, embodiment, intimacy, and relational healing.
I successfully defended this doctoral project with distinction.

This manuscript is available for educational and professional reference.
Please note: The accompanying Sex for Every Body therapeutic workbook is not included in this publication. The workbook is a separate forthcoming resource scheduled for release later this year.
Sex for Every Body represents a commitment to expanding culturally responsive conversations about body image and intimacy and to creating resources that recognize the body as more than something we see—it is something we experience, inhabit, and bring into relationship.
This project offers a pathway toward reconnection, not perfection.
